Tim Burton’s Alice

Tim Burton…Alice In Wonderland…Johnny Depp…oh my god, I just may have a heart attack. I’ve been eagerly waiting for anything that I could find on this movie since I first read about it. It’s going to be tough to embed a trailer, unfortunately, since it’s one of the videos on YouTube which you are prevented from embedding, and if you are outside of the US, you’re prevented from even watching it.

You know what?  This is why I download shit. I can’t even watch the damned trailer if I’m not in the US?  We’ll probably have a movie release six months after the US?  Fuck that shit. You people are why I download movies. It’s a moral imperative.

Anyway, the art direction looks gorgeous, and Tim Burton’s sweet but twisted vision is perfect for Alice.

  1. I really don’t understand the blocking of the trailer outside of the US on YouTube, especially because there’s at least 3 or 4 sites where you can watch it, presumably legitimately.

I’m a little worried; I think that Burton and Depp together can often descend into whimsy, and I’m not sure Alice needs any more whimsy.

  2. No, you’re right – whimsy would make it too much like an overly-sweet iced cake. Alice is one of those stories that really works well with a very dark twist to it, something that brings out the terror and cruelty that runs through the book.
