Thoughts on EVE

I’ve decided that I’ll probably pay for an EVE subscription once my free trial is up. I’ve enjoyed it much more than I thought I would, although I’m still getting used to the open, design-your-own-game environment (in comparison with Warcraft, which does an excellent job of leading you through a linear levelling progression).

Missions are fun, although I find it difficult to gauge difficulty prior to landing amidst a fleet of pirates all overly capable of (and quite exicited about) totally kicking my ass. I’m getting quite good at picking the neared safe haven and warping out of trouble.

The character that I made was built as a prospector/miner, which I actually find quite boring. I enjoy the missions, and would theoretically enjoy some form of pvp once I get a decent ship and can train up the required skills – some of which take a very long time to train.

I need to join a corporation, and have been doing some research into possibilities. Miz and I are running missions together, but it would be helpful to be part of a corporation.

So, overall, I’m having fun, and it’s very different than AoC, LotRO, or WoW…which was the whole point.  :)

  1. Hi Ravven, I might be looking for some new corp members, so if you’re interested in chatting some more after reading my blog, I’d be happy to hear from you.

Nice blog, by the way. Keep it up. :)

  2. Why thank you very much. I’d been thinking EVE University (being such a noob and all), but I will definitely check your blog out this afternoon and we’ll have a chat. :)

  3. I haven’t played EVE in forever. Getting kinda bored of WOW and might pick EVE up again at some point in the future. It is very pretty, isn’t it? I really like the PVP as well, I just don’t like the… permanence of it all :)

  4. Hey Elore, good to “see” you again. :) EVE is a lot of fun, but yes – it is hardcore. I’ve lost two ships so far, fortunately not very expensive ones. I can’t imagine losing a very expensive, well-fitted ship. It will happen, though. In EVE that’s a given. I treat it more as a casual game. When I’m not logged in, I’m training skills, and every now and then I log in to do some missions, etc. I will never be hardcore in EVE.
