I wish I had any skills whatsoever in writing scripts, but I can’t do dialogue at all. I had an idea for a movie that I think would be very interesting (maybe not, your mileage may vary).
The other night we were watching a movie and one of the previews was of a movie called Skinwalkers. It looked like a predictably bad werewolf movie, but it got me thinking about the possibilities that a movie about Navajo skinwalker mythology would have. Set it in a normal, modern reservation, with all of the poverty and housetrailers and so on that you kind of expect. Perhaps you have a teenage boy that learns from his shaman grandfather…but that’s probably cliche and there are more creative options. Anyway, his training introduces a fantasy/horror element to the realism of life on the rez. I’m not sure where it would go from there, but I think it would be interesting. It’s similar to the movie Thunderheart, which I really love, which added mystical elements to a movie about aboriginal rights conflict.
Anyway, add this to my list of unmade movies which I would love to see. :)
Speaking of movies which I’ve never seen, we finally watched The City of Lost Children, which was gorgeous. I really, really thought it was beautiful, and I loved the young actress playing Miette. If you haven’t seen it, it’s worth watching.
I can’t remember what the mystical elements are, but there’s also The Dark Wind which has Lou Diamond Phillips in a story based on a Tony Hillerman novel, concerning a navajo police officer.
Sounds like a much better use for celuloid than some of the manure (I’m being kind) crawling out of Hollywood these days.

Ooh, I’d like to see The Dark Wind. I may have read it, as I used to read a lot of Tony Hillerman – I quite like his books. And (come to think of it) he actually wrote a novel called Skinwalkers, although if I remember correctly, it was more concerned with superstition affecting a murder mystery rather than the supernatural. Now I feel like getting a bunch of his books out of the library and re-reading them. :)
I think Tony Hillerman actually wrote a book called Skinwalkers…
As far as Skinwalkers the movie, I had the misfortune of seeing it quite recently. Ow it was bad.
Maybe you should collaborate with someone who write screenplays – I know a guy :). http://www.stephenawhite.com

lol, well there you go – send him the idea and tell him to run with it, because I’d really like to see this movie made. There is too much crap made (like the Skinwalkers movie). :D
