Rat Tails

Rather a lazy day today, aside from doctoring Kip’s foot (which isn’t showing any improvement yet – although it’s a bit hard to tell since he’s such a soft crybaby). We bought two baby rats as companions to our one remaining fancy rat, and after two days had to remove them from her cage; she was horrendously bad to them. I don’t think they’d drunk or eaten anything all that time, as she would pounce on them, biting and clawing, if they even moved. Evil bitch.

Aja and Anansi were a lot of fun last night – although the amount of fun I can take at 4:00 am is rather limited. I keep getting up in the middle of the night to let them out to play in hopes that our neighbors won’t complain about all the noise. Anyway, rather than keeping them shut in the two rooms on the third floor, I closed all the connecting doors and let them play on the stairs. I’ll have to shoot some video of them bouncing up and down all the flights of stairs, it was very funny.

I’ve had two offers of horses that I can ride if needed or use for lessons, but I am so depressed about Kip’s constant injuries. Some horses are like that – either too clumsy or just victims of very bad luck, and they suffer a string of injuries and illnesses that means that you can’t depend on them to be ridable from week to week. I feel that Kip and I are never going to get anywhere. Ok, that’s not entirely true, but I am very frustrated. And I am hoping with all my heart that this is merely an abcess, and not something disastrous as a cracked pedal bone or whatever…it would just be too much. :(

I think the most fun I’ve had with pets involved stairs :) at the townhouse I used to rent with friends we’d trap my ferret on the stairs and she’d run up and down and up… the cats would join in and it would be a thundering heard. we could spend an hour like that, one at the top, one at the bottom. Now, I’m without stairs and without a roommate to block the other end. Ah well :)

considering the time of year and weather, abcess is nearly expected. give him a few more days and he should really be getting better. promise!

  2. Hoping the boy is better soonest.

And that things at work ease up on both you and Phil.

    *hugs*

I hope he heals quickly and that it’s nothing too serious. Poor him. Poor you!

  5. We introduced them as gently as possible, but we presently only have the one “rat complex.” We’ve never had a problem before…normally the dominant one will turn the new one on its’ back, and there will be a lot of squeekage, but as soon as pecking order is sorted, they’ll be fine. She wouldn’t let up, though. Strange, because she seemed so miserable when she was alone, hence the urgency to find a new companion. :(

  7. Kip is still hobbling. :( Best to Denali, btw. I miss having our ferrets in the house; it’s nice that they can have their outdoor run, and we let them in the kitchen in the winter, but Phil is too allergic to have them in the house.

  8. Thanks, beautiful. :) Everything SUCKS right now…it’s one of those times when you are sure that you must be cursed by the gods.

  10. Thank you. :) Poor Kip. He’s so miserable right now…I’m going to wait until Friday, and if he’s not better I’ll have the vet out again before the weekend when the costs double. Even though Kip does seem to love his Sunday visits from the vet. :(

  11. You’re welcome.

If it makes you feel any better, the curse is world-wide. The SUCKAGE is universal.

We have to sell the car we just bought six months ago.

We’ll survive it though – and so will you guys. We’re all too damn stubborn not to.
