new projects

The weather is gorgeous here, hot and sunny with a hint of a breeze. I was afraid that this was going to be one of those English summers where you had the occasional warm day, but no long stretches of hot days that really make you feel as though it’s summer. An English winter is just too grey and depressing if you feel as though you haven’t had a summer.

I’ve been sketching out a new project, an illustrated children’s book based on a book which I loved as a child. It was quite surreal in places, but suffered from a very meek girl main character who was quite outshone by her much braver brother. Re-written, it would be wonderful and quite dark in places. (No, I’m not saying what story it is. It’s mine, all mine, I tell you!)

The visit to the traditional Chinese doctor was interesting. I had acupuncture, shiatsu, and cupping done, supplemented by yet even more arcane herbal products. The acupuncture was fine except in a single spot on my hands, in the fleshy bit between the bones of the index finger and thumb. It hurt a lot, and my hands hurt for an hour or so afterwards. Proximity to a nerve?  I’m not sure. I was totally shattered afterwards, but now feel much more energetic.

We’ll see how it goes…
