When I went out at lunchtime today, I could barely keep my feet due to the thick layer of glassy ice on all roads and sidewalks. The UK evidently has laws that make whomever clears ice from walkways liable if someone falls down – so neither the shopowners nor the council want to risk clearing it. It seems quite odd to me, coming as I do from a lawsuit-happy American background, but whatever. Anyway, I tried to walk to the Sainsburys across the street, considered actually taking my shoes off and walking in my socks, decided that was a daft idea, and decided in a fit of madness to get lunch at the very posh Thai restaurant next to work. It was lovely, simply lovely. Crispy duck pancakes and Pad Thai…to die for.
And I didn’t have to risk my neck to get it. :)
