Its easy: I hate to lie, telling that something its good when its mediocre at best. Most people’s art is mediocre at best. On top of that, I am no art critic, so my view may be flawed. So I think its usually better to say nothing that to feed people with empty compliments.
I’m the same way about people’s children…it really makes me uncomfortable to try to come up with something complimentary to say about someone’s pride and joy. :D
BTW, my usual response when someone shoves a baby in my face and demands recognition for their procreative achievements is to say, “Yep, that’s a baby.”
lol…I’m a lot more polite. I look at this baby that looks like an unholy frog-goblin cross and say “oooh, how cute!” You’d think that parents would hear the blatant insincerity in your voice, but they don’t. :)
So much eyecandy.
I loathe to compliment someone’s art, but this one is too good to pass.
I am now curious why anyone would loathe to compliment someone’s art.

Spot on.
Children are cute sometimes but they are most of the time annoying. And people are expecting you to compliment their creations, be them art or kids…
Ah, so you loathe to give false compliments. That’s different than my initial reading.
I couldn’t understand why someone would hate to compliment something they actually like.
