I’ve been trying to decide if I want to keep my EVE subscription active – I haven’t been having much enjoyment in the game, and due to the exchange rate it’s a lot more expensive now than it used to be, much more expensive than any other subscription I have.
Part of the problem is just that I’m not very good at it, and that’s something that I’m not used to. Scanning, for instance, is a major headache and no one can explain just where I’m going wrong. I can find something on the directional scanner, and understand about narrowing the band as I align to the various planetary bodies in the area to try to pinpoint it. As soon as I have it narrowed, though, when I warp to the object that is in that area, I lose it, and have to start all over. Never once have I been able to get close enough that the object actually shows in my overview, rather than just on the scanner. It’s quite frustrating.
Then, take that frustration and add in the amount of times I’ve lost ships while out practicing. There are a lot of people out there who quite enjoy podding people in noob ships. I just can’t see the fun in one-shotting a much weaker ship…but then, I’ve never been a graveyard camper, or someone who rolls on pvp servers so they can hang out in the starting areas and kill new players.
I’m beginning to think that I’m not suited to this at all…at least, not right now. Maybe later, when I’ve managed to untangle some of the unpenetrable systems that are EVE. I enjoy the people – there are some really awesome players out there. But the game is pissing me off royally.
I used to feel this way about the scanner. But something clicked for me at some point, not sure what did it. If you could spend an hour with me or Shae for some one on one mentoring, maybe whatever was confusing you would be clarified. It’s probably just one small misperception or improper sequence that is screwing things up. If the game isn’t “grabbing” you and drawing you in, I can understand that too. But either way, and even if you choose to unsub, finally sorting the issues you’re having with the scanner might be rewarding.
if you’re finding yourself over-podded, why not take a vacation in hi-sec and get your confidence back. Run a few missions for combat agents and blow apart a pirate BC or eleventy.
Come to Metropolis and have a ball (I can even link you up with some thoroughly yarr-ish types who enjoy blowing missions to pieces)
And I DO know a certain Colonel that might be willing to overlook the fact that you’re a Minmatar for some quality one on one time together to, you know, help you with your scanning and such.
Thanks, all – I appreciate it. I’ll figure out what’s wrong, it’s just pissing me off right now. Nothing worse than to pay an expensive game subscription just to feel like a total tard. :D
And I have been moving some stuff to a higher-sec area so I can try to make some cash – part of the problem is not being able to afford to replace ships and fit them. If I had enough isk, I’d fly a fuckoff huge ship like everyone else and not worry about it. :)
The main problem, I think, is trying to do solo pvp in small ships – most fights end in seconds. I knew up front that that was something I’d not find enjoyable, but I was anticipating playing a tackler or whatever and not trying to burn down a ship with my little T1 frigs.
My primary ship type is T1 frigs. I can also show you an easy way in Empire space to make millions easily.
And I can understand frustration. EVE does that. It’s part of the love/hate relationship.
Just don’t quit. It’s worth it once you get passed the tard stage. Hopefully one day I’ll get by that stage too.
Rocweiler, I’d love to hear your moneymaking secrets. :D That’s been really difficult – I lose the will to live when I mine, and all I really make is a bit from salvaging.
