I’m going to have to change my terms and conditions for book cover design, unfortunately. I’d kept it reasonably informal since I wasn’t doing an enormous amount of work and I’d not had a problem yet with anyone. Most clients have paid as soon as they were invoiced, excited about getting the unwatermarked version of their final cover art. Recently, however, I didn’t get paid for work after submitting an invoice (one that I’d had to purchase stock for). It’s a shame, but from now on I will have to charge 50% up front for all covers. Stock purchased will come out of that deposit and will be detailed on the invoice.
I do love my authors and publishers, you know. It’s just that I have all those hungry cats to feed. :)
